Dear Cassandra

I am having a re-occurring dream that is very disturbing to me and I wonder if it has any significance to my real life. In the dream, my husband is in a jail or prison and is attacked and murdered during "lights out" time. My real life husband is currently in jail and this dream didn't start until he was there for a week. He has been there for about 6 weeks now and I am deeply concerned for his safety. Please help me.

Recently, I had a dream where I was walking through several rooms, each connected to the next end to end (rather like a row of train carriages). There were dozens of these narrow rooms which were quite cluttered.
Part of the way through my dream I took off my high heeled shoes and carried on walking through more rooms but when I tried to find my shoes I couldn't, even though I looked through all the rooms again.  It was all very confusing and no-one could or would help me.
I would be grateful if you could give me an interpretation of this.

It sounds as if there is a lot of emotional clutter in your life you are trying desperately to organise, but as soon as you do people throw more demands at you. Shoes are important because they represent our ability to walk (maybe away) and certainly to take charge by finding your path through the clutter. Your got lost which suggests that maybe someone is trying to hold you back Do let me know if I can be of more help.

I  would like to share a dream I had with you all.

I'm currently 24 yrs old and had this dream when I was 21. It was just after Christmas - I remember that because I had written down the dream in a book I got for Christmas but have now lost it!!

For some reason I was in a hospital and I had just had a baby. The baby was a girl. This room had glass windows at the front in which the bed was facing - 2 large glass windows with the bottom being white board and then a glass door to the side.
Everything in the room was white. The bed sheets, the chair, my clothes and even my baby girl was dressed in white. (I have no children). I was breast feeding her and remember looking at her with such love and pride. Her skin was so smooth.
Once she had finished I placed her down on the bed, whilst she was sleeping and I left her. I put a coat on which was black and walked out of the hospital thinking 'I have to be at home'.
I walked from the hospital to my house. The route I took was not at all familiar to me. I remember walking up to a housing estate and there were a group of 3 or 4 boys playing. The air was crisp - not cold but a bit of a bite in the air which took a little of your breath away. I had to walk across a tiny bridge over a stream. This 'bridge' was more like 3 steps over water. It was wooden. On 1 side of this bridge was a lake. Not particularly big but big enough. It was so calm and serene. I remember looking up and the sun was breaking through the trees. I've never known such peace. Whilst I was standing on the bridge on the other side the lake seemed to disappear under this tiny bridge and go into a small babbling stream. It was flowing quite fast and I remember thinking how can a lake go into that?
However, as I bent down, there were 2 mobile phones bobbing up and down even though the water was moving away these phones stayed put! Each phone had 3 missed calls on!!!
I didn't pick them up, I just walked off.
I don't remember going home. I just remember going back to the hospital where my baby was still there on the bed, she hadn't moved or been moved and no one knew I had gone.
I climbed back into bed and held her.

This dream left me feeling terrible for days afterwards - I kept looking around - I truly thought I had had a baby. I have never been pregnant. I thought I was going mad!!
Its still very vivid to me especially the lake scene.

I've never known the meaning to this dream and I've never dreamed anything like it since.

Dear Joanne,
Water dreams are usually about things deep in your emotions, you want but maybe fear. The messages on the phone that were missed were I think saying that it wasn't the right time for something in your life, especially as you did not pick the phones up to dial.
The baby is maybe the baby you will have some day. Some people believe that we have the souls of children to whom we could become a mother who have chosen us as possible mothers.
The time is not right the dream is saying but maybe motherhood is important to you deep down and certainly the dream is a fertility one and tells you you would be a good mother if you chose that path.
The place you went to may be a glimpse of where you will live one day if you have a baby.

I am a firm believer in all things unexplained...Always have been, but I have had a couple of very definite experiences where ....

1...It involves someone, who, years ago, I loved deeply and although it was in my teens and we had just begun in the early stages of "going out together". Tragically one evening he was killed in a car accident. I had a dream a few nights later where everything in it, to this day is so so memorable, and vivid, more so than what I actually did last week, where he told me he really did love me and that he had to go and that, the following Thursday, at 6:00pm he would have phoned, as arranged to tell me he loved me ....With that he said it was now the time and he had to go. He got back into the car that was remarkably like the one he died in and was gone.....I have never dreamed of him since although I have often wished it...

2..When my dad died I had at the time two very young children ...Dad was a bit of a sceptic and would have loved to spook me out (In a nice way.) Anyway after being at my Mums all day I came home and as usual my ex-husband was nowhere around for a drop of comfort or sympathy ...Anyway after putting the boys to bed I sat and I felt so sorry about things that people feel when they loose someone dear to them....All of a sudden the green velvet curtains attracted my attention and smoke/steam seemed to be billowing out from underneath them. I watched stunned and unable to take in what I was actually witnessing, to the point that when I did register that THIS ISN'T NORMAL I just said I'm not ready for this yet...And within a blink of an eye all was gone.

I don't know if dad was thinking that I was able to handle the grief, and also joy, proving his obvious passing and continuation of being. At the time I obviously wasn't, but have regretted it ever since as he wouldn't have hurt me.

However I am ready now and would love your advice on whether they were real experiences or not. And what to do from here...Yours hopefully Gill

What wonderful experiences that in both cases were signs that you were loved. I do believe, and from countless experiences I have been sent, that our essential selves or personalities do survive death and that people do return to reassure loved ones. Often the contact is through a dream when our conscious mind is not active to block the experience. In the case of your boyfriend he wanted to tell you he loved you.

The second experience was your father's way of showing you that he knew how upset you were and was trying to tell you he was OK.

Communication comes in different forms, sometimes in a dream but often by giving a sign of something really strange like the curtains and the steam that just cannot be explained rationally.

How old were you at the time of the first experience? I would love to use it in my Psychic power of Children new version that goes up to people aged 18. This is the age when our psychic powers slip into the background, though others especially women keep them into their twenties and thirties.

Death of a loved one can reawaken these abilities which was how you were contacted by your father.

Hi Cassandra. I watched you on Loose Women this afternoon and I thought you were great. I am 16 and I have studied dreams for about 4 years now. I often have lucid dreams which I try to control and translate. I would just like to ask how you think I can identify more subtle omens in dreams and how much an accurate translation relies on the different aspects of their actions. I have a "dream dictionary" which I use to translate dreams but sometimes it does not have all of the appropriate omens or the analysis does not seem "true" enough. Do you think using this method of analysis is effective?

I would also like to ask how you think I can further my knowledge of dreams and how I could possibly even make a profession of analysing them.

Record your dream when you wake and then sit with a rose or lavender scented candle in the evening and read what you wrote. Now tell a story about the dream as though you were telling it to a listener, allowing the dialogue and the action to expand and the symbols will become clear. Then you may want to write a poem or draw or paint a picture about the dream. You will find doing this you are tapping into the very deep collective unconscious wisdom of people in all times and all places, and symbols become clear spontaneously.

When I was young I had a dream about me, my sister and my mum. We were in the middle of nowhere and my mum was in this tent but it was on the bridge and in the tent thing there was a little crowd and a man doing tricks. Me and my sister were on the bridge and she said to me I want to jump and I said no, and she jumped into the water and and died. My mum was still in the tent and suddenly they floated off in the dream my mum didn't notice me or my sister. I was left all by my self and I was on this bridge all alone, all I could see was water and land, NO PEOPLE.

What a sad dream. You missed out how old you were. I would really like to know. The dream is all about the fear of losing people we love and  that we are helpless to protect them from life. I wonder if there were a lot of family changes at the time of the dream. Drowning dreams are usually about feeling over whelmed by responsibility for other people and no matter how young we are we can feel we need to take care of those we love. Some people feel this from about five years old and are said to be born old wise souls. Maybe you are one of these

Your dream shows what a loving person you are. The being alone bit is something everybody experiences at some time in real life and if you could remember there may have been some incident about the time of the dream that set your unconscious mind worrying about being left all alone.

My name is Maritza and I live in Sweden (excuse my English!) I just wanted to share an experience with you so maybe you can help me to find the answer. Is about a nightmare. Is like this, since my daughter was born I had nightmares almost three to five times a week, always the same dream just with little variation. I used to dream that my daughter stopped breathing and that it was my fault because I was supposed to look after her in her sleep. I awoke very afraid but the worse part is that my husband tried to awake me but I did not react and just grasped him terrified and I didn't recognize him, after some seconds I used to awake.

The dream changed a little bit and when my second child was born; the nightmare continued with him (now two and a half years old), it continues to change, and at last it was a child but not my daugther and not my boy, it was a child that I should care about but it was my fault that this child stopped breathing during his sleep and died. I had this dream many times a week during these nine years Some months ago I cleaned my room and decorated it according the Feng shui, and I made by hand a dream catcher and believe me, I stopped dreaming the nightmare, but I still don't understand the meaning of it and I keep wandering about it. I don't know if I'm right but I have a terrible feeling (you may think that I'm an idiot!) that I lost a child in a terrible way in a past life and I still may feel responsible for that? Thank you for writing. Your dreams are indeed distressing. I think that your dream has meanings on different levels but first I must say you were or are in no way to blame for anything whether in a present or past life.

I did some work and do not think your dream is related to a past life.

I think the baby is actually you, the person inside who needs so much to be cherished and loved. Psychologists talk about our inner child and I would think you have probably always been a peacemaker even from a little girl trying to make others happy  even when their unhappiness was not your fault.

You are obviously a very good mother but like all of us mothers we are always anxious to protect our little ones in what is a very dangerous world sometimes, and that can come out in dreams. Another level of meaning is that you are afraid you cannot protect your children form hurt when they go out into the world. In fact your love will always protect them.

Next time you have the dream lie there and re-enter the dream in your imagination. Save the child. Do this every time you have the dream and then slowly the dreams will change or stop

My name is Anna and I am twenty eight years old. I have a regular dream that I am lost in a huge forest and I am running as fast as I can because it is getting dark. I can hear soldiers running after me shooting their guns in the air and I know I will be captured and shot, but just before they reach me I wake up.

For the last year I have been involved with an older married man. He promises he will leave his wife for me, but he says I must be patient until his children leave school.

My mother who knows the family but not about the affair, told me his wife was pregnant but I do not believe it as Anthony says he has not slept with his wife since the youngest was born. I am afraid his wife will find out about me and I am worried that his wife really is pregnant and he has been lying to me.

How can I stop the dreams, Cassandra? I am scared one day the soldiers will kill me and I won’t wake up, because each time I have the dream they are getting nearer. I call out for Anthony but he never comes to me in the dream.

Dear Anna,

Sometimes, dreams are telling us what our daytime minds push away. The forest is your tangled emotions and the difficult situation you are in that involves Anthony’s family as well as you. The soldiers are the fears that one day you will be caught out and then will have to face the disapproval of your mother as well as the hurt of Anthony’s wife.

It truly is your life and your decision, but I think your dream is warning you that you are giving up a lot to stay with someone who may not be prepared to leave his family.

Maybe you need to talk to Anthony about your fears or confide in your mother who may be shocked but who will support you, especially if Anthony’s wife is pregnant.

My name is Joe and I am eighteen. Every night for a week I dreamed that I was driving to join the navy with my Dad, but suddenly the road ahead just disappeared and we were in a field. My Dad was furious, because he said I would be late, but the field was filled with beautiful butterflies and flowers and I just sat there enjoying them though my Dad got madder and madder. Then the road came back and I was so upset, just like when I was a child, I cried and my father told me not to be soft. I still feel upset when I recall the dream. My father was in the navy till his retirement and all his family have been. I have got the right grades to be accepted for officer training but I am not as excited as I should be.

This dream is just your unconscious mind’s way of saying that the road your Dad is driving you along (ie to join the navy) is his path but may not necessarily be yours. Maybe you need more time before committing yourself to a career into which you will be tied for a number of years. If your father is a strong personality and with all the navy connections, it may be hard for you to say you maybe are not decided about the future. Enjoying the butterflies and flowers in the dream suggests that you should maybe take a year out and then decide if the navy is your choice. Do you like nature? Perhaps that is what the dream is telling you also. The fact you were so upset in the dream and your father did not approve of your crying would suggest that  emotions may come hard to your father. You may have learned to repress your very valid emotions. I'd just like to say i've been very inspired by you. I need some advice. We moved in to this house nearly three years ago and since then we've been seeing shadows out of the corner of our eyes and I often hear footsteps. I've never liked our landing and have to make sure all doors are closed there before bed. Lately my two year old son wakes up screaming at someone to "stop it" he seems genuinely distressed and points at the corner of his room. I've never liked that room but due to lack of space he has to sleep there. I've even heard someone shushing him to sleep when he was a little younger. Should I cleanse his room? if so how do I go about it.

I do not think you are at all a nutcase. You are probably picking up energies left in the house or if the house is new from the land on which it is built. Maybe something sad happened there years ago. Try waiting for a sunny morning and opening all the windows in the house.

Mix three pinches of salt in still mineral water in a bowl and stir it with a silver knife three time clockwise and then make a cross in the water. Now go from room to room, scattering drops of water around the walls, saying "Friend please depart in peace or if you wish to remain live in harmony with my family".

Afterwards, close the windows and tip the rest of the water away down an outside drain. For three evenings beginning on the day you scattered the water, burn a white candle as near to the centre of your house as you can. LETTERS: MEDITATION EXPERIENCES

Dear Cassandra,

About three and a half years ago I had a strange experience which I have not forgotten and would like to find some answers to my questions about it. I was at the time in a deeply unhappy relationship with a very manipulative and controlling man. One afternoon when he was either out or busy upstairs I decided to do some meditation. I do not know if I feel asleep and what I experienced was a dream or not. I felt so different and I felt like I was in control of things. This is what I saw and felt:

I was standing in a wood surrounded by trees and I could see a pack of wolves running towards me. I was stuck to the spot and my heart was pounding (I am afraid of dogs in everyday life). As the wolves get to me they ran around me and I turn and start to run with them, I was now a wolf running with the pack. I could see everything the way they did and from the level they do. We ran on until me reached a small cottage in a clearing. About 30m from the front door in an area where the grass was long there was a circle of flattened grass and in the middle of it was a baby wrapped in a blanket. The pack moved over to it and circled the baby, but then we all turned into women with black cloaks on. One of the women picked the baby up and handed it to me. At that point I came back to the here and now.

That was the only time I had that dream/vision. Since then I have left Mr Manipulative, and I now live with my new partner and we have a baby girl called Yasmin who is now 15 months old. At the time of the dream, having a child was the last thing on my mind. Having now welcomely had a baby I wonder what this dream/vision meant.

This was a truly wonderful vision/ dream. Wolves are a terrific female power symbol and you in the unhappy relationship were not able to use your power. The vision/dream was your unconscious mind deciding to run with the wolves, that is, take on your own power. The dark robed women are very mystical. You may have belonged to an order of priestesses in a past  life who maybe knew the wonderful art of shapeshifting, changing into different creatures. Or, again it can be a symbol of allowing your wise inner self to lead you out of trouble with Mr Manipulative. The vision gave you the strength to move into a new better life  The baby was your future child that was waiting ahead when it was safe to be born.

You must be a very special lady to have such a dream/vision, what is sometimes called a waking dream.

LETTERS: PROTECTION

Dear Cassandra,

I live in Rochdale Lancs. My house is one year old in a development of eight other new houses (2 years old)

The houses are on the site of an old people's home. We have had many problems because two of the families are causing so much aggravation and bad feelings, in the past year one couple divorced and sold their house. The house opposite has been sold as well and the owner is waiting to move out. Next door the old lady is rather unhappy. She used to talk to me but now she doesn't, she turned against us because of a trivial event that made her embarrassed. Her neighbours next door have sold and moved away. The house next to them is up for sale again. My house is for sale and I cant wait to get away quick enough. I wish I had never come here. We have had quite a few ghostly disturbances: knocking on doors, burglar alarms that are not in use going off, computers switching of and off by themselves

The two of the families causing so much aggravation and bad feelings have a past history of this kind of behaviour. The woman immediately next to me is vindictive and makes mischief — she tries to get us to pull down walls and fences as she says the boundaries are in the wrong place. The other neighbour is a bully, we suspect he has been putting screws in our tyres.

I just feel that there is so much going on that is negative here. Do you know how I could redress the balance. I don't want to hurt anyone, there are quite a few children in the road, some of them have been influenced by their parents; shouting obscenities and jeering us when we come home. My neighbour has had eggs thrown at her door, etc.   

Have you any suggestions?

I have been needing to talk to someone with physic powers for years. I've always noticed that I was different. I noticed more, I even hear more than what most people do. The past year I predicted several events in which close friends and family have been involved in. I've had incredible dreams some good and bad, The one that worries me is something deep down knows that some I don't no what except it's a big red sheet falling from the sky and this will cause a big wipe out. My sister, daughter and I visited a local ruin quite a lot over the last few months as as we felt a 'spirit' was asking us for help. We were very foolish and spoke direct to the 'thing' we felt was causing problems for our spirit - we have no experience and have discovered a psysich sense together and stupidly felt we were meant to use it. On return my sister and I feel something has attached itself to each, even though we live 3 miles away from each other. I feel this 'thing' on my back, sometimes it is strong, sometimes not. We both keep praying, but have not met up since for fear of giving it strength. I have purchased some amethyst crystals which I wear on my body. In my dreams I battle with it - last night was very real. Sometimes I feel it is going, others not. What can we do? Please help.

Make some holy water by mixing three pinches of salt into a bowl of still mineral water. Stir it and say: "May only good remain within this home and all who live here". Stir it with a silver coloured knife and then make a cross on the surface. Sprinkle  the water around all the rooms and your beds and all should be well. I am sure you did not pick up a spirit as it would stay where it was but what you may have picked up is the sadness and the unhappy feelings, like when you talk to a sad friend. Have a bath or shower each night using lavender or rose bath essence and before you go to bed light a white or pink candle in your bedroom. In the morning when you wake sprinkle still mineral water over your hairline to remove any sad feelings you picked up form your aura. Do this for a few days and all should be well. If not write again.

A Psychic Experience from Jenny

Dear Cassandra,

We live on the Isle of Wight and recently moved to a house that had been empty for a while. My daughter Samantha who is six loved it straight away as it had a big garden. But she is really spooking me as she keeps talking about an old lady with the yellow umbrella who talks to her in the garden. The property has a high wall so no one can get in, but last week Samantha was so insistent that the old lady was looking for her cat that I mentioned it to the woman next door who has always lived there. She said an old lady had died in our house about five years before we bought it. People thought she was very odd because she kept her yellow umbrella up in the garden even in sunshine. After she died her cat was taken to a Rescue Centre.

Should I take my daughter to a doctor?

Please don’t worry and don’t take your daughter to a doctor, because she is quite well. Your daughter is quite normal, just very sensitive.  She is seeing a picture from the past.

Lots of children have similar experiences, at least a fifth of under sevens, but parents tend not to talk about them because like you they are worried their children may be regarded as odd. In a year or so Samantha will be so absorbed in the everyday world that she will no longer see other dimensions. Young children are very open and innocent and so can pick up impressions that past times have left in old houses and on land that we adults miss. You are very lucky to have a sensitive daughter. This might sound silly but go into the garden and say:’ Mrs--Your cat is quite safe. You need no longer look for her.’

Probably Samantha will no longer see the old lady after that. Just make sure Samantha has plenty of contact with other children and that she can talk about her experiences to you.

My name is Margaret. I am thirty. Recently my mum had a big operation and when I went to see her the next day, she told me she woke up in the night and saw a big angel with white wings and a golden halo smiling at her. Then Mum blinked at it was gone.

Relax. Your mum was very privileged. She saw her guardian angel who was caring for her because she had had an operation and maybe feeling scared. Sometimes when we have a crisis in our lives, we can more easily see other dimensions. Most people are not fortunate enough to see their guardian angel. Your mum is getting better and she will have her angel take care of her for many years to come. Hello:

I became acquainted with you & your work after purchasing your book, PSYCHIC SUBURBIA at a used book store. I've always been curious & somewhat open to the possibility of a spirit world but as an avowed Christian, I've had a hard time balancing the two. Christians are taught not to even entertain such ideas. Still, growing up Catholic & told that though the body dies, the spirit lives on - well, it's been confusing, to say the least.

I've been a published writer 17+ years, & most of my work about what makes people tick & specialize in personality profiles. This wouldn't mean much, except that I've a propensity for coming in contact w/ephemera from the dearly departed, ie, photos, documents, a diary, I research the focus person & find, each time, that the individual had an extraordinary life & often unique deaths. Is there psychic connection known to occur based on written & visual materials, as opposed to "ghostly appearances" of more traditional sorts? For example:

A number of years ago, I visited an antique shop. Digging through seemingly innocuous receipts, can labels, etc, I found a clearly very old document. At first I'd no idea what it was, but I had to buy it. It was large, folded, official parchment record, w/1840 dates & the town, "Barkhamsted" indicated. I took it to the front desk. There was no price listed, & personnel didn't know, but promised to call the owner & get back to me. I went home & forgot about it. About a week later, they called. I could buy the parchment for $4.50. Still unsure what it was, I bought it. I took a magnifying glass to it at home & found it to be the indenture of a 7-year old girl, being sold by the town council of Barkhamsted. I researched further, thinking it from England, but learned it was Connecticut. I'd bought the document May 7th. My birthday is May 7th -- & the subject of the indenture was born on 5/7. Extensive research has taught me that the child was a Barkhamsted ward sold to someone in Hartland, the closest town. This might not be much of a story if not for the fact that the child was beaten to death w/a thornbush branch about 2 yrs later, by the wife of the man who bought her. The indenture, a small note in the Hartford [CT] Courant newspaper, & a church notation are the only indications that Susan Rice ever lived. What is my connection? Why me?

I've tried to discover for some time why I'm "followed" by stories waiting to be told. As writer & researcher, I seem a logical person. If you've stayed w/me this long, I hope you might share an idea or two. I do not invite negativity of any sort, so have felt to this point the stories that "come to me" are of people that need, finally, freedom & peace. My Christian nature still gets a case of the heebie-jeebies, but if I welcome only light, I pray that only light will follow.

So do I work with the light and pray to the light. I am actually a Quaker as well a druidess and the rest and there are many Christian Druids Alternative/psychic/magic work is remarkably more and says that what we send out we get back threefold, good and bad - so no saying Sorry and letting the consequences go. Also magical rules say that you can do and ask for anything as long as you harm no one which means yourself or any person or thing.

Of course, people use spirit matters and magic as an excuse for harm, but through the ages religion has done some pretty awful things to people of other religions as well as to non believers.
Most pagans honour a wise loving Goddess (and other worshipping religions have very long traditions), but I believe that as long as you are of pure heart and of good intent it does not matter the name of the Divine Power you honour.

Now for your remarkable experiences - I believe that our unconscious mind does have access especially to the knowledge of the past, accepting that all people came out of East Africa millions of years ago and so we all share a common genetic heritage. Because your background is writing/research your own connection with past dimensions which is what ghosts are comes in ways that will enable you to acknowledge and use the information you receive to maximum advantage.

From my own research over many years I have come to the conclusion that the personality does survive death and that people in the Afterlife/heaven/The Summerland whatever it is called, can act as guardians to the living, using the power of love to return (sometimes only their perfume is smelled at a time when the fragrance is not in the room and more than one person may comment on it. In Christianity, the dead and living meet at the altar rail.

My name is Mikael, I am 26 and live in Sweden. My biggest problem in my life is that I have a some problems caused by the Neuro-psychiatric disorder: Gilles de la Tourettes syndrome. And the biggest symptom that I have is a pretty severve case of Stammering "Stuttering". I have bought your book "Crystal Power" and read that the stone Diamond may be good for brain diseases etc. Do you think that I should buy a little Gold pendant with maybe eight small diamonds for example, and begin to wear it around my neck? Do you think that could be good for me? Please give me any tip if you have any. Otherwise I just take a medication called Orap. And that's it.

I am so sorry you have problems. Yes diamonds are good for your conditions, but you need only buy tiny ones or substitute Herkimer diamonds that are much cheaper.

I have written a big book with Sterling/Vega, called the Illustrated Directory of Healing Crystals giving details of 150 crystals and their uses, obtainable through this site. I have also written a Swedish crystal book whose name you can see in my book list, published through www.planet,se. I do not know the name in Swedish.

But a very good tip I will give you that may help your stammering is to soak a small blue lace agate in still mineral water overnight. Take the crystal out and drink the water and add some to your morning shower/bath. Can I also suggest some relaxation/meditation techniques.
