MIRANDA Maker of fine Candles and Incense I’m Miranda, Cassandra’s daughter. I am eighteen and I am an apprentice witch and also a Bard with a Druid order. Ma took me to a Druid ceremony at Avebury stones on the Autumn Equinox and I ended up dancing in the centre of the stones and being made a Bard. Things like that tend to happen when I go out with Ma. Then we escaped to Polly’s Tea Rooms in Marlborough and ate just about everything as we were freezing (I think we led a mini revolution of cold Druids who had been standing around for hours waiting for someone to make a break for it). Ma is a full blown Druidess with a white hooded room. She sometimes scares people on the caravan site where we spend weekends when she works in her robes with her ceremonial sword in the grove of trees opposite our van, but she is quite harmless except once in a blue moon when we kids go a few hundred steps too far. I have a really beautiful black robe Ma bought me for ceremonies. I lent it to Jane Goldman the TV presenter when she and Ma were filming a programme on clairvoyance in some woods near our house. Did they scare the golfers!! One made a cross with his golf clubs when he saw Ma and Jane dressed up with ritual knives in their belts for the Tree stave item. I am training as my mother’s apprentice and go along to Witchfests and other events with her. I assist at handfastings and read the Tarot for my friends and their families and carry out magical rituals. I have now started a business making individually crafted candles for Handfasting, fire rituals, Archangel rituals etc and making incenses to order from the flowers and herbs in our garden. I’ve had quite a bit of training but rely on my mother to make sure that I get the moon phases right for making. For now I leave the empowerments and blessings of the candles and incense to her. I am hoping to start a full time business soon. We have a magical tree with mirrors, glass baubles and ribbons on it in the middle. I of our garden. I stayed up with Ma for some of her Summer Solstice vigil last year and we lit candles round the tree as darkness fell. Our black cats Jenny and Mole sat on either side of us all night - that worried the neighbours! I have a boyfriend called Andy who is in graphic design. He is very interested in my magical work which is just as well as toads make boring boyfriends. I am, as well as candle and incense making, studying for an Open University degree. I am one of five children and I grew up going to old sites in our motor caravan and playing in magical forests, looking for fairies and tree people. My brother Jack and I used to play with dowsing rods among the trees and stones. I was really good at it till I realised it wasn’t logical. So for a time I couldn’t find things with the hazel rod any more. Now I know psychic experiences are not logical and so the powers came back My first psychic experience was when I was very young and I used to see my grandmother who died about twenty years before I was born, sitting on my bed. We didn’t have any photos of Granny Beryl except a small faded one of her with short curly hair like my mother’s. Then a few years later we were invited on an ITV show with Judy Finnegan and Richard Madeley talking about my mother’s first book Psychic Power of Children. My brother Jack had started it all off when he was three and told Ma my father had fallen off his motor bike, but was OK. At that moment the accident was happening 40 miles away. Not to be outdone, when I was four I had a dream of my Aunty Ruth (my grandma’s sister) who had been to visit us on the Isle of Wight with my Uncle Richard and Aunty Pam; Aunty Ruth was in a wheelchair, When I saw her in the dream she said;’ I’m all right, dear’. I could see her leg was better though she was still sitting in the wheelchair. The next day Ma heard she had died. Which was how I ended up on the television. The makeup lady put Ma’s hair up in what I found out later was called a French pleat. Ma’s hair was really long at the time. I said ‘’That’s was how Granny Beryl wore her hair when she came to see me.’. That really freaked Ma out because my grandma had an artificial hairpiece she used to wear for parties and special occasions. But she had never mentioned it to me. I am sometimes telepathic. For example recently I dreamed about a friend whom I had not seen or heard from for ages (he lives in another part of the country). The next morning he rang me up to say he had had a dream about me the night before. I do a lot of rituals with Ma and read all her books. (I wouldn’t get fed otherwise) and have always made incenses and candles just for fun and presents. I hope that now other people will enjoy using my candles and incense as much as I enjoy making them. Go to Miranda's Candles and Incense
